They spent over £140 million last summer and you could argue that they got worse.

100m doesn’t really do that far. Normally these numbers roll in the terms of the contract and such rather than being the amount that can be spent on the transfer.

We can’t compete with other richer owners.
Sooner Sullivan goes, the better.

They’ve been so lucky to stay up. Basically just caught arsenal not at the races in their penultimate game - they were shit but arsenal we’re shitter. They were proper shit after lockdown, the fact that they and us and Brighton didn’t go down after how poor we’ve all been for most of the season speaks volumes as to how shot Norwich, Watford and Bournemouth were.
I don’t think £100m guarantees them anything. We moan about our awful signings, but I actually think the majority of big money signings throughout the league for the last few seasons have been shit. Newcastle and Everton have spent fortunes on awful players, Bournemouth have just got relegated with a host of expensive players on their team. Tottenham have spent loads and gone nowhere. Villa need a lot of improvement and could still lose some of their best players as well - and they’ve made the mistake we normally make of announcing a budget so teams will know they have money and will try to squeeze them
Fact is for most teams outside the top 5 or 6 you are just crossing your fingers that the players you sign work out and then you don’t suffer bad injuries at the wrong times. Teams that were safe a while ago would look totally different if they’d lost star players for long periods. Imagine if ings been out for as long as Antonio. Palace had ayew, Zaha and milijovejic fit all season. Imagine if one or two of them had been out. They’d be screwed.
I also think Sheffield Utd will come crashing back down to earth next season

The life of a manager.
1/Get promotion and you're a hero. 2/Escape relegation and he's only done what was expected. 3/Next comes the big player budget and higher expectations. 4/ Then if Villa aren't chasing Europe and are close to relegation zone he gets sacked...

I agree
We should be aiming for younger players on the upside of their careers
Let's hope lessons have been learned

Other than I doubt he'll go anywhere if they beat Fulham on Tuesday, as a player who has only played in the championship before, he would probably constitute a gamble and only teams in the bottom half will be after him probably and will pay too much.
I like us gambling on players like him, but we generally deem it wiser to waste money on crocks or old cunts.
Bowen and Soucek were huge pleasant surprises.

Villa's wage bill is LOW currently. Grealish is on "only" £35k. Tom Heaton is highest earner on £42k. Only Sheff Utd and Norwich had lower bill this season just gone, so they have plenty of scope.
We pay £100kpw for the walking dead.

As with many teams, unless they get lucky with a hidden gem, it'll probably be on over priced players like Wesley who aren't that great, as only a few teams can convince real quality to join them nowadays.
Similar boat to what we're in basically.

Even if the 100m is bullshit, what isn’t is the 30m avg we have spent over the last 5 years.
It's embarrassing and insulting.
Ramping up the pressure on the owners can’t come soon enough, attack anything they are involved in, even the companies who advertise with us.

So you are saying a 100 million pounds transfer budget is no better than a ZERO transfer budget because money doesn't guarantee success???
Aston Villa have a big advantage on us with this budget. Their owners really mean business. That's why I really wanted them down.
If the Daves don't start to act like premierleague club owners soon we'll see Villa overtake us like most clubs in the premierleague have already

Barty, every team in the PL is our competitor, they finished 1 spot below us thats all, if anything this is good news (if true) as we can hopefully sell them a player or 2, is not like this war chest will have them competing with Man city for players is it.
How much will Brighton spend, or the 3 promoted clubs, even if Vila strengthen, no guarantee they wont still be fighting the drop all season.

They are our competitors
So what they have got to spend affects us
Moyes has said we don't have much to spend because El Pel spent alot . Well like I said our net spend for the last 5 years is 30 million on average!
Moyes or claretandhugh don't mention that though

Well last year they bought a lot of average players as were squad filling from a base of about 16 players. Suspect they have very few on truly notable wages.
